Point mutations or single nucleotide changes can have untoward effects on the protein structure and functions. Mutations in tumor suppressor genes are strongly associated with carcinogenesis. Thus the study of these mutations/SNPs is crucial for the understanding of molecular mechanisms of the disease, drug discovery, and testing efficacy of a drug.
